Why (or Why Not) Choose Drupal?

Choosing a CMS can be a daunting task. There are a lot of competitors in the space - some open source, some closed; some PHP, some C#, some Ruby; some specialized and some general.

Drupal is a very popular choice - with good reason. There are a lot of very common "types" of web site that Drupal excels at creating: social media-based sites, news sites, conference registration sites, to name a few. Drupal is also a fantastic platform and framework on which to try to build your unique site that "breaks the mold", so to speak. Drupal even has strong data export options, so it plays nicely with other CMSes if you're in a multi-CMS environment.

Drupal is not ideally suited for every situation, though.

This session will discuss things to consider in general when choosing a CMS as well as specifically discussing some of Drupal's pros and cons.

Presented by Aren Cambre, Web Systems Lead, SMU Office of Information Technology; and Andrew Kaufmann, Associate Director, Integrated Marketing and New Media, SMU Meadows School of the Arts.
